When the vision of City Lights was first birthed, one of our founding members had a vision of little lights all over Auckland shining bright. The lights increased so much that eventually they formed together until our whole city was bathed in light. This is still our vision.
Over the years we’ve mainly held our gatherings out South, but in recent months we’ve decided to localise into various communities around Auckland to see what potentially awesome things we can get up to by putting the power back in your hands. In March 2010, we expanded City Lights into 3 regions of Auckland, South, Central and West. This was mainly possible through the cooperation of some pretty fantastic churches. We were able to keep the South Gathering with our friends at Mangere Baptist, while we spread our City gathering to Urban Vineyard and our west gathering to Glen Eden Baptist Church. These are hubs, of course, which means the gatherings were hosted by the churches, but were set up for people from a wide variety of other churches in these areas. We want to see our partner churches develop all around the city (and even the nation!) by making the churches the hub of activity at the times of our City Lights Gatherings and all year round. If you are really passionate about reaching your community and you think your church would make a good partner church, please write to us so we can talk more. We are sure that there are other regions of Auckland and NZ that we could expand to so if you think you would make a great Hub location, please first come along to a City Lights Gathering and then send us an email so we can have coffee.
