So you want to go to Christchurch??

Well now you can. The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers, so if that feeling of helplessness is just getting to be unbearable…. and you’ve already given up your money for our whanau in Christchurch… then here’s your opportunity!!

The Salvation Army has a team of 150 Volunteers working in Christchurch. They are door knocking in the suburbs, working at the Recovery Centres, helping with clean-up, working in the food warehouses etc. etc. They are rotating these teams in and out every 5 days and need a good list of volunteers who they can contact as needed to keep the ranks full.

Volunteer Job Description:

  • Provide support and team work to the Salvation Army volunteer group work in Christchurch.
  • Could include door knocking and listening to people still at homes
  • Cleaning, cooking serving food etc. at recovery centres
  • Listening to people and providing support and advice
  • Behind the scenes labouring and support
  • Driving – etc.
  • Wear the Salvation Army High Visibility Vest at all times

Ideal person specification

  • Must be over 21 years old
  • Must be the kind of honest and caring  person that you would recommend working with you Mum or Dad when they are vulnerable after a major tragedy
  • Be fit and healthy
  • Be a team player – and able to take orders and work hard
  • Be available for a full 5 days
  • Experienced in listening and supporting
  • Driver’s licences  (car and/or truck and/or wheels and rollers etc.) an advantage

Expenses

·         The Salvation Army will arrange and pay for  travel

·         Accommodation and meals will be provided
